About Timișoara

Timișoara is the capital city of Timiș County, in western Romania. One of the largest Romanian cities and considered the informal capital city of the historical region of Banat Timișoara is the main social, economic and cultural center in the western part of Romania. Timisoara is one of the largest Romanian cities.

Timişoara is a special city. Everybody feels it, those who were born and live here and those who come here and then decide to stay. Timişoara is a city of parks and of heritage buildings, a city both cultural and sportive, a university city, and especially an offering city to those visiting it. Timişoara is the city of freedom, which in December 1989 becomes the first communism-free city in Romania. Whether you choose to walk along the streets full of a fascinating history, or you choose from the rich cultural offer or an agitated night in the clubs or a refined one in some chic restaurant, Timişoara has got many things to offer. Many of the artistic events take place in public and unconventional places – squares, parks, banks of the river, museums, old historical buildings, churches, even the airport runway.

The cultural agenda of the city looks more like a novel – the list of festivals and events seems endless. Timişoara intends to apply for the European Capital of Culture 2021.

• Plai Festival – Plai is a festival that celebrates multiculturality with world music, jazz, workshops and joy, arts and exuberance.

• Street Delivery Festival – Organized in Bucharest, Timișoara and Iași, the festival reaches areas such as architecture, music, theater, dance and film

• Timișoara Jazz Festival - a jazz festival that takes place outdoors, in Victory Square, in July and brings to the scene international jazz artists.
