What’s LEAD for EPs?

LEAD stands for

Learn, Engage, Activate, Deliver and is a global program to support leadership development. It serves to improve the quality of your AIESEC experience. It also serves to empower and equip leaders with necessary capabilities and learning in order for them to perform their best and means to strengthening the brand of leadership internally and externally.

It helps to pro-actively take a step towards building entrepreneurial and responsible leadership and thus, create leaders who can be positive change agents in society.

How to enable Leadership?

Creating a better environment to our exchange participants where they can learn and explore the possibilities in their experience.

Before the implementation of EP LEAD itself, the most important thing is clarify is Co-delivery.
Co-delivery is a more concrete way to do co-operations, in order to provide more and better experiences.
Co-delivery is based on implementing EP LEAD of both entities (OGX and ICX).

In AIESEC Romania, it is the first year to pilot LEAD for EPs in all the LCs. Still, we are currently in early-implementation phases and some LCs will maybe take a bit longer to adapt their HR capacity and knowledge to this need.

LEAD implementation:

LEAD will start with the Inter Cultural Preparation Seminar delivered by the VP TM/OGX in the home entity of the EP.

The LEAD program is continued in the host entity, in three phases.

NOTE: This is AN IDEAL  VERSION OF LEAD FOR EPs. However each LC customizes it according to it's projects and the needs of the EP.

1. LEAD #1 – "Check in"

This meeting will happen in the first week, as close as posible to the EPs arrival, and before they start their work at the entity/in the project. It can be facilitated by VP iGCDP, VP TM, Local Team of Trainers, Returnees, or even alumni.

First week of the eXchange is the most important for the EP who is facing foreign and challenging environment and it starts from the very landing on the host entity – as first day of Reception.
"Check-in" itself is the mini seminar made of introduction part delivered by ICX and TM. Proposed AI agenda is below:

AIESEC Induction should be delivered by LCP or VP ICX in order to present AIESEC culture of host entity and LCP as high responsible and authority in the LC has the privilege to give the EPs warm welcome.
The impact of leadership in the internship should be presented by ICX who will explain more the JDs of the EPs and actions required to make final contribution to the local community. The main purpose can only be delivered by this team. They are aware of the way of the project and steps taken in the project to maintain the flow of impact itself. Explanation of the leadership and journey of EP during the X can be also explained by TM or integrated EP about leadership itself in the local community.

The main plans about presenting culture shock and activities during the X have to be done by ICX.
Use integrated EPs to share with EPs their experience about culture shock and challenges they had to face with by living in a host entity and to compare with the home entity. Explain them how to adjust to some cultural differences in order not to misunderstand some things and how to behave in some occasions.
Goal setting is delivered by TM. It’s essential to motivate them to write new ones to maintain the culture of writing goals and actions down to paper. It may contains as session of the definition of goals as experience the EP want to have during the X, personal development either skills or competencies EP want to improve and goals as contribution through the X to local community. Other topics are below:

Soft skills are designed as trainings delivered by TM. Topics of training will depend on TN form, but it will be based on skills and competencies of a leader as Public speaking in the form of Teaching, Problem solving, Time Management etc..

Tips:
Use the EP journal as a complementary tool to the LEAD seminars.

LEAD DESIGN

I&ME - The way I see myself, my awareness of my own strengths and weaknesses, and knowing my own leadership style and how I can use it.

I&OTHERS - The way I, as a leader, work with other people, how I interact and transmit my ideas to them, and how I manage and develop my team.

I&THE WORLD - How I fit into the environment around me, what kind of society, and how my actions create change.

Principles of co-delivery in host and home entity

Note that LEAD is the program which will make your internship count, and will make you actually change during the experience.
