How should I look at my Inner & Outer Journey?

This is how we will help you enhance your OUTER JOURNEY

AIESEC is not an exchange organization. We develop the kind of needed leadership through our exchange expriences. We intend to bring leadership to the problems in the world as oposed to resolve all the problems in the world.

(GIP + GCDP programs)

Our volunteering model allows us to create the kind of needed leadership through creating experiences for others.

(TMP + TLP programs)

Having this in mind, let's explore how can we turn the numbers we deliver not only into nice stories, but also into LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCES. We provide the leadersip needed by providing leadership journeys

At the heart of this journey is an inner and outer journey. The inner journey describes how the leader learns through reflection, mentoring and practice.

The outer journey describes the crucible experiences in which leadership is forged and includes challenge, risk and working at the “edge of the system.

  • Challenging JDs with clear individual complex responsibilities

  • Adjusting our processes for leadership development: selection, preparation (TTT for EPs)

  • Involving TN takers in leadership development

  • Offering a support system from AIESECers, buddy system

  • Creating a multicultural team for the you

  • Taking organizing responsibilities in the team

  • Assigning responsibilities out of their comfort zone, assist them while doing it

...and how we will help you enhance your INNER JOURNEY

  • Ensuring personal and professional goal setting and tracking it

  • Ensuring you realize the relevance of the experience and their responsibility towards it

  • Giving you inputs how to use your experience in the future

  • Developing a LEAD program for you

  • Organizing feedback sessions, debriefings, sharing sessions

  • Facilitating introspection, self-reflection by asking the right questions - What have I learned so far? What does this say about me as a person? What values do my behaviours outlines?

  • EP journal, Personal Development Plan

The inner&outer journey model is designed to develop a specific kind of leadership in our EPs, a leadership that is characterized by the following behaviours/abilities:

  • Believe in yourself

  • Proactive learning & fast adapting

  • Awareness of wolrd issues and willingness to contribute

  • Ownership for the world

  • Able to work in a multicultural environment

  • Open-minded

  • Risk-taking

The leadership we should develop in every exchange

What should be my attitude as EP during my internship?

  • I should be aware of the things happening outside, reality, facts, my project, my Job Description (so my Outer Journey) and how are all of these affecting and changing me.

  • I should be looking for challenging JDs with complex responsibilities;

  • I should search for a multicultural environment and be attentive to the team I am part of;

  • I should be courageous enough to take new responsibilities or tasks, that can drag me out of my comfort zone and therefore, push me to develop myself constantly, while learning new things about the Romanian culture, myself and my skills and competencies.

  • Regarding my Inner journey, I should not neglect the things happening inside me, how am I changing emotionally and how much time I take for a more deep thinking and reflection process, since I am going through a lot of new circumstances, here in Romania.

  • I should take care and make sure I will set personal and professional goals and track my progress throughout my staying here.

  • I should think of how to use my experience here as an intern for my future career.

  • I should create personalized tools that I would like to use for "following" my personal experience in another country (EP journal, a calendar, a photo album etc).

  • I should be actively involved in feedback sessions.

  • I should enhance introspection and self-reflection, so I could get out  HOW WILL  the relevance and impact of the internship itself,  the people that I have met in Romania CHANGE ME as an individual.
